Stephan's Lessons
And More!
Who is Cheffin' Stephan?
And what's the deal with the lessons?
I am a chef. I got an Associates degree in Culinary Arts in 2014, won Dare to Pair 2014 and have worked with a diverse array of cuisines and James Beard/Michelin-worthy mentors since. I love to use my mastery of classical technique to create complex sauces and rich meats, though most of my cooking focuses on healing through nutrition. I pickle, brew and ferment. I value freshly harvested fruits and vegetables and moderation of animal products. Personally gluten-free since 2006, I am an adept baker and excel at modifying favorites to fit dietary needs.
I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to bring something to your table.
I am a musician. I have always had energy that I couldn't physically contain and it found it's first productive outlet in singing and drumming. I sang in honors choirs throughout middle school, high school and college. I've had the privelege of singing Tu Es Petrus from the dais in St. Peters Cathedral. I studied for 12 years with Ken Dalluge, venerable percussionist/drummer for Batucada Nana and author of several theory books. I believe drumming and singing are the most natural, accessible forms of musical expression-- beneficial for everyone. I have an ecclectic style, proven curriculae and many fun tools to play and learn with.
I provide 1 on 1 instruction in my home our yours. I can help you develop your skills and your confidence. My drum lessons involve practicing rudimental patterns with each limb, learning songs and popular beats, playing with a metronome, familiarization with improvisation and a wide range of percussion instruments to supplement the drumset. My voice lessons are all about learning your unique voice and the body mechanics that support it. My cooking lessons focus on nutrition, the science of food and the art of presentation. All lessons are customized to the individual and your feedback is essential!

People are Good
I believe most people are good. It's not just a great Luke Bryan song, but a mantra that reminds me to listen and to forgive. Often the hardest part of anything is showing up. So if you show up to my lesson, I'll meet you wherever you are, whoever you are.
My lessons are a safe space for any human. I am a queer man and an ally/advocate for the underrepresented. I have experience working as a support worker for adults with intellectual disabilities. I want you to succeed and to thrive!
